PostPartum Myotherapy

Myotherapy can support the body's natural healing process after childbirth. The gentle nature of myotherapy can help new mothers relax, reduce stress and help the body adjust. Having witnessed my wife grow, birth and care for our two daughters, I know how much the mum holds, literally and figuratively, when it comes to a new baby. Myotherapy in Postpartum can help address the physical changes as a result of childbirth through massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy, aiming to promote recovery and bring the body back into balance.

The focus on myotherapy in new mothers is to - relieve muscle tension and improve circulation - address restrictions and improve flexibility in the fascia (connective tissue) - release painful knots and tension in muscles - restore range of motion and address joint restrictions and address pain associated with breastfeeding, carrying, lifting, and postural changes that can occur during and after pregnancy.

Common Postpartum Issues Addressed by Myotherapy:

  • Upper and mid-back pain: Often associated with breastfeeding and carrying a baby.

  • Lower back and sciatic pain: Common due to changes in posture and body mechanics.

  • Pelvic girdle pain: Pain in the pelvic area, which can be exacerbated by pregnancy and childbirth.

  • Pubic symphysis pain: Pain in the pubic bone area.

  • Coccyx pain: Pain in the tailbone area.

  • Neck pain and headaches: Often related to poor posture and stress.

  • Wrist pain: Can occur due to repetitive movements associated with caring for a baby.

  • C-section and abdominal scar release: Myotherapy can help to heal and reconnect with a belly scar using techniques like massage, breathwork, cupping and gua-sha.
